Petty Auditorium

Get inspiration and fresh ideas on design as well as planting tips to deepen your knowledge of fruit and vegetable gardening.

The garden to table movement is here to stay. Chicago Botanic Garden’s senior horticulturist, Lisa Hilgenberg, will give practical ways to incorporate interesting edible plants, fruit trees, and shrubs into all gardens and every landscape client or personal project. We will highlight tried-and-true varieties, including the most ornamental combinations and the newest dwarf varieties for seasonally interesting beauty and plentiful harvests.

Over the last decade, Hilgenberg has managed a four-acre fruit and vegetable garden containing 700+ types of edible plants. Lisa designs the edible landscape and has trained hundreds of gardeners and mentored dozens of interns from Windy City Harvest (Chicago Botanic Garden’s urban agriculture program), College First-Chicago Public Schools, and the French Heritage Society.

Presented in collaboration with the Skokie Beautification and Improvement Commission.
