Youth Services Indoor Igloo
...a very special project

In late autumn 2003, Youth Services librarians Susan Teller and Cathy Maassen began work on Skokie Public Library’s first indoor igloo. The igloo, inspired by Pack-O-Funâ magazine, was a highlight of our "Read With Me" Winter Reading Club for kids from birth through kindergarten.  Our littlest patrons (and some of the bigger ones, too!) were invited to crawl inside the igloo to read, relax, or just enjoy the view.

Construction of the igloo took eight hours, 350 one-gallon milk jugs, cardboard, and tons of hot glue. Building materials for the igloo project were generously provided by Dean Foods of Huntley, Illinois and Skokie Public Library staff.
