William
Shakespeare was an English playwright and poet. He was born on April 23,
1564. He died in the spring of 1616. During his lifetime, Shakespeare wrote
at least 37 plays that have been produced and read around the world more
than any other author's. Most of Shakespeare's works are divided into
comedies, tragedies, and histories. He is considered to be the finest poet
who has ever written in the English language.*
