Winter Reading Club
January 15 through February 28
Just in time for the Winter Olympics, Skokie Public Library launches a "Reach for the Gold" Winter Reading Club beginning Wednesday, January 15. Just as an Olympic athlete needs to choose a goal and strive to achieve it, we're giving our reading athletes a chance to choose a goal (with some minimum requirements) and strive to meet it. To keep your winter days "Goal Oriented" children can choose to do both physical and reading activities from January 15 through February 28.
"Reach for the Gold" involves setting a goal: a minimum of 600 minutes of reading books, and 300 minutes of physical activities such as checking out a CD and dancing, checking out a DVD and following an exercise routine, or going for a long walk! In person registration is required. Completion of activities is on the honor system and we ask for three visits to the Library. Upon reaching your goal, you will receive a Skokie Library sports bag! Just as a gold medal athlete has to dig deeper than most, a gold medal reader needs to strive beyond – gold medal readers do more and then some more!
Prizes have been generously donated by Evanston Subaru of Skokie, Dolphin Swim Club, First National Bank and Trust, and North Shore Community Bank. All those completing program are automatically registered to win one of our Winter Reading prize baskets – one will be awarded to Bookmobile patrons and four will be awarded to Library patrons.
The reading club is for all kids from newborn through grade 8. Sign up at the Library or on the Bookmobile beginning Wednesday, January 15.
