Summer Reading Programs at Skokie Public Library
Skokie Public Library once again offers a variety of summer
reading programs for all ages from babies through adults. The theme for 2011 is A Mid-Summer Knight's Read and programs run from June 1 through July 31. We promise you a royal experience, fun, and prizes for everyone!
Adult & Teen Summer Reading Club
Summer Reading is not just for kids! Adults and teens (entering 9th grade and older) can also take part in A Mid-Summer Knight’s Read. Register beginning Wednesday, June 1 at the Readers' Services Desk, on the Bookmobile, or online and then read five books by July 31 to complete the club.
- Enter every book read into the weekly drawings for fabulous prizes.
- Adults, read five books, audiobooks, or eBooks to qualify for a chance in the grand prize drawing for a $50 gift card and two tickets to the Northlight Theatre.
- Teens, read five books, audiobooks, or eBooks to qualify for a t-shirt and a chance in the grand prize drawing for a $50 gift card.
- Enter special contests throughout the summer on the Bookshelf Blog for even more chances to win prizes.
Youth Summer Reading Club
Kids from birth through entering 8th grade can sign up in Youth Services or on the Bookmobile and then check in four more times to reach the reading goal for your age group. Complete information and details will be available at sign-up.
- Read-with-Me Members (babies through entering grade 2), read or listen to ten books at home and record your progress in your book log. Then, bring your book log to the Library or the Bookmobile to report your progress. After four reporting visits and a total of 40 books read, you will receive rewards and a chance to win a gift basket.
- Independent Readers (entering grades 2 through 6), pull the sword from the stone and be guided to your first nonfiction book. Check out this book and two more of your choice from Skokie Public Library. Read the books at home and record your progress in your book log. Then, bring your book log to the Library or the Bookmobile to report your progress. After four reporting visits and a total of 12 books read, you will receive rewards and a chance to win a gift basket.
- Contract Club Members (entering grades 6 through 8), Sign a contract to read at least 1,000 pages by July 31, 2011. Read the books at home and record your progress in your book log. Then, bring your book log to the Library or the Bookmobile to report your progress. After four reporting visits and a total of 1,000 pages read, you will receive rewards and a chance to win a gift basket.
