Manga/Anime Appreciation Club

Relaunched as a teens only club, this is the place for students in grades 6 through 12 to read free manga and watch anime on the big screen. Japanese snacks are served! Dying for some ramen? Love to eat Pocky? Join us the first Thursday of every month and revel in epic geekery, otaku style.

Parents! There may be problematic content in anime and manga. We select titles based on reviews and requests. We aim for a middle-aged teen audience. Please refer to this guide to find out more, or ask the Young Adult Librarian for specific information about upcoming selections.

Young Miss Holmes
by Kaoru Shintani

Christie Holmes is a prodigy. At ten years old, she's as familiar with the sciences and classics as any older student at Cambridge or Oxford. And her facility with logic is reminiscent of her uncle, the eminent Sherlock Holmes himself. So, what's a brilliant young girl to do when her parents are away in India, leaving her behind in the care of maids and servants? Solve mysteries, of course. Along with her giant hound Nelson, Christie's implacable curiosity leads her from one dangerous adventure to another, often joining forces with Uncle Sherlock and Doctor Watson on their famed investigations. Christie may look pint-sized, but her clever mind is never to be underestimated!

by Masami Yuki

Birdy is a jaw-dropping, pin-up sensation with a secret. Under the cover of darkness, this dream girl becomes a bad guy's worst nightmare. Birdy dons her crime-fighting costume and hits the street as a lethal, interstellar federation agent charged with nailing the most dangerous criminals in the galaxy. Her latest case involves a gang of extraterrestrial terrorists and a stolen space weapon that could nuke every living thing on Earth. Birdy's got the moves to stop them dead in their tracks, but there's one big problem: she's got a nasty habit of going berserk, and somebody always gets hurt. Yeah, Birdy may be dreamy, but she's also the only thing more dangerous than the bad guys.
